Arden in the garden…

It’s so very bittersweet when you see a little one for the last of their baby plan sessions. Sweet Arden is now 2, and today was her grand finale. We met at her home and took advantage of the amazing flowers that grow in her front and back yards. Sweet girl has grown up in front of my lens, and I loved hearing all of her new words, checking out her new big girl bed, and admiring her cool new sparkly flower flip flops. She is all girl, that’s for sure!

Arden is all girl, but she has mad tree climbing skillz. Just don’t let her Daddy step too far away, or he gets this oh-so-subtle look:

At the end of our session we delivered the promised, well-earned popsicle:

Doesn’t she just look like summer?

Even more boys…

The boys are out in full force these days!

First today was sweet Miguel. I’ve had the awesome opportunity to witness this little guy’s many milestones, from hearing his first cry to watching him pull up in his crib for the first time…and watching him run around the park this morning meant more to me than I can express. It is such an honor to photograph every single one of our families. Being asked to witness a child’s first year of life is an even bigger honor, and one that I don’t take lightly.

Which is why I’m so tickled that not only is Miguel going to be a big brother in the Fall, but my camera and I have been invited back into the delivery room.

Again…such an honor.

So today we played, and ran (and fell), and climbed, and showed off all of our soon-to-be big brother moves. And as Miguel’s mommy said (as we gasped for breath after chasing little man through the grass) “How will we manage to photograph TWO of these little people?”.

I laughed and suggest duct tape, and a round of martinis. I’m just sayin’…

After Miguel and his family of 3.5 I met with Jacob and Ian (I know…MORE BOYS!). And these two have a serious problem when it comes to listening to authority. Take a look…

This is me: “I don’t want ANY laughing! NO laughing boys! I mean it!!! NO LAUGHING!!!”

And their reaction:

(it works every time) ;)

The boys also brought their out of town grandparents along, and we snapped a few with the guests of honor and then did a little ‘boys only’ portion.

We had an absolute ball, and ended up in the water at the end of our park session. There was some serious, competitive splashing going on.

And then the boys turned the waterworks on ME! (payback!)

Thanks everyone for such a fun start to the weekend! I couldn’t have asked for better weather, better timing, OR better boys to play with today.

Much love!

Chasing Charlie…

Charlie’s Mommy won one of our auction lots last year at his preschool auction…this one for a 16×20 canvas! I can’t wait to see which one they choose as canvas-worthy.

Debbie was teasing me today, telling me that whenever sessions are a little on the challenging side I like to post on the blog about how ‘busy’ the little ones were. So I won’t say Charlie was ‘busy’…but he definitely kept me hopping today!

At 20 months, there is just *so much* of this world to explore. I can’t blame him…it is fascinating to throw sticks into the water, chase birds, practice running across bridges, and generally keep Mommy and Miss Jen busy on their toes.

He did all of this today, and in the interim we managed to capture a few of his gorgeous, blue eyed smiles.

And when Charlie was finished, he let us know…

(but I still snuck this last little shot as he dragged his favorite bear down the path and headed for home. Can you see his name embroidered on the ear? Love it!)

"Waiting…"

I eluded to this a few weeks ago, and the time was never quite right to follow-through with our big news. But for some reason I feel compelled to share our fabulous news with you tonight and the wait is officially over:

We are adopting!

I know, I know…it’s heady stuff. I get the chills every time I type those words. It feels so official putting it out here in bloggy land.

I’ve been keeping a little blog dedicated just to our adoption journey, and you are welcome to bookmark it, comment, and follow along as we turn our little family of four into a party of five.

There hasn’t been a lot of action to this point, just lots of paperwork. We’ve selected our agency (not that there was any real question of who we would work with), attended orientation in February, and have completed our home study. We are waiting for our background checks to come back, and sent off for our fingerprints yesterday. Which means we are still at least three weeks away from being approved.

But, for whatever reason, tonight feels like the right time to say those three little words.

We are expecting.

We are waiting.

We are thrilled.

We are petrified.

We are adopting.

It’s a miracle!

It’s 8:54 on Friday, November 30.

I just emailed my last holiday slideshow. On time.

Every order for holiday cards that was received by our first deadline has been printed, packaged, and is either here waiting to be picked up or has already been taken home.

We are waiting for 2 more shipments to arrive with remakes of certain prints, and 1 massive card order to arrive late next week (How much do you think 2,150 Christmas Cards weigh? Feel free to hazard a guess-We recently found out and it’s a *heavy* package…I need to bake cookies for our postman when that puppy arrives!).

All this to say. WE ARE CAUGHT UP!

I keep waiting for the other shoe to fall…this season has been *way* too organized. Where are my sleepless nights? When do I wake up in a panic mumbling something about cards and computers and cameras? I sort of miss my dream about showing up at a session naked (okay, not really)…

I owe it all to The Girls. Mindy and Debbie have been amazing at keeping us organized, focused, and covering all of our bases. Thanks ladies!

As of tomorrow, things will slow drastically. I have two sessions next week, one the week after, and then have time to enjoy the holidays and my family.

I feel sort of aimless tonight…I should be designing one of the fine art books that is waiting for me in a HUGE MASSIVE STACK. Or our Sugar holiday cards. Or even updating the site.

But for now…I’m going to curl up on the couch with last night’s episode of Grey’s, some leftover Halloween candyI just found (score!), and enjoy the Christmas tree lights while listening to the silence of sleeping children.

PS) If you haven’t heard of this little Elf…I credit him for convincing my two to stay in their beds tonight. I *heart* him!
