Bennett + Ava + Ellie

Third babies are so very special around here, and this little guy was no exception to the ‘Easiest Baby Ever’ rule of thirds. At 9 days old Bennett slept, curled, and slept some more. He ate a bit, cried the tiniest bit, and generally was about as mellow and laid back as I could have asked for.

Plus, his big sisters? Delightful. Also, in love.

I just *LOVE* the paci on the edge of the photo. My 7 year old likes to ‘help’ edit (for example, she demanded that I remove the pacifier. So we had a discussion about what real life looks like…not just picture perfect moments. I don’t think I convinced her, but it’s my computer and only I know the password, SO THERE! The paci stays. ;) )

Katie + Maggie {Allie, too}

Today was the long awaited newborn session for Maggie and Allie’s little sister, Katie.

Back story (bear with me)…I first met this family when Maggie was born. I stalked Jenny and Andrew as they fought Allie’s cancer, and my heart broke when I heard of her passing. When Jenny was close to her due date with Maggie I took a deep breath and emailed a woman I’d never met, admitted I was a stalker, but was also a photographer and would love to gift their family with a newborn session to capture their new baby girl. NO RESPONSE (mock huff: CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? lol). So what’s a stalker to do? Why, EMAIL AGAIN, OF COURSE!

So I did, and this time she took a look at the site (I believe they were still in the hospital?), emailed back, and a date was set.

That session, is TO DATE, the hardest, most emotional, most poignant session I have ever had. I didn’t know this family, they didn’t know me, but they opened their home and their hearts to me and my camera. It was, in a word, raw. The emotion just bubbled up through every sweet moment with their daughter, and their missing angel was so THERE. I remember distinctly getting into my car after their session ended to drive home, putting my head on my steering wheel, and crying tears of sorrow, anguish, and joy (I still tear up, just writing these words. Jenny…I am so blessed to know you).

Fast forward four years and we have become dear friends (BFF’s, if you will). I was honored to be asked to document Katie’s arrival last week, and knew immediately that today would be so very different from our very first session together. And it was.

Joy, confidence, laughter, and happiness filled every room of their home. Of course, there were still tears. Sweet Allie is still just around the corner…her absence will always, ALWAYS be felt. But her sisters now have each other to grow with, to fill their parents’ hearts, and to honor the legacy that is Allie.

The image that caused immediate tears…

Beckett + Sawyer

Six week old Beckett came to play today, and brought his brother Sawyer and his cutie-pie parents (dad is my cousin, though I’m still two weeks older and therefore WIN WIN I’M OLDER I WIN).

Who us? Competitive? NEVER!

We had a fun morning playing with their two blue eyed, tow headed little boys, and I was immediately reminded of the fact that though this was technically his ‘newborn’ session, he’s most definitely not in the mood to sleep (or curl):

So we went with the wide-awake look (after almost two hours of cajoling), and I must say it would have been TRAGIC to miss these big eyes if we had stuck with the fast asleep mode:

Love this cute dad, his loving big boy, and somehow the screaming baby just MAKES IT ;)

One big gorgeous happy family:

Holden + Cooper

Sweet, newborn, tiny, scrunchy-faced, sleepy, super-tolerant, 8 day old Cooper came to play today, and brought his older brother Holden and cute parents along to help. I was lucky enough to photograph Holden as a newborn as well (almost 2 years ago), and was honored to be asked to document this new little life.

Mr Holden has decided that he’s not too sure about his little brother. Scratch that, he IS sure…and he’s not thrilled. So we got a little creative on the big brother front (Thank you, leftover Halloween candy!):

And we were even able to snag a few family photos before blue-eyed Holden decided he was ready to go outside and play:

The rest of the time Cooper slept…he let us do a myriad of crazy photographer things to him, and was as cooperative as his name might imply:

See how sweet and snuggly he is? (And how gorgeous this mommy of 2 boys is? Say it with me…It isn’t FAIR. No one should look this good with an 8 day old.)

Welcome to the world, Baby Cooper. And welcome to the land of Big Brothers, Sweet Holden. Soon you two will be the best of friends…I just know it!

Harper Amelia…

Last week I had the great honor of documenting sweet Harper’s arrival, and the precious introduction to her three big sisters.  On Saturday we had her newborn session, and I had another chance to play with this new little one.

Trying to get three big ones to sit still with one little one is never easy. But I *heart* this image so much, and had to show it.

Sisters. Love it.

And with that…I’m out!  I’m setting my alarm to go off in (HOLY COW! TWO HOURS???) so I can join 19 of my favorite Montessori Mamas on our annual trek to Mexico.  Yes, our school rocks.  ;)

Have a great weekend everyone!
