Hagen + Haylie…

Let me introduce you guys to THE best husband in the world.  He had all us Sugar girls buzzing after he bought his wife a gift certificate last year for Christmas. Isn’t that the sweetest gift? (No pun intended)

We met at their church today for their session and it was AMAZING.  The light, the background, the loves and smiles and laughter…it was the perfect combination!

Just look at this family!

I get emails all the time from photographers (and those aspiring to be) and love helping when I can!  One of the questions I get is “How do you get families that don’t want the posed, everyone-looking-at-the-camera, “CHEESE!” photos?

And to be honest, I do get some of those. I love eye contact, and as a mom I know that every parent wants pictures of their kids looking at the camera. Plus, the grandparents *heart* these.

But then? After snapping a few like this…

I shoot a few FOR ME.

And doesn’t this one make you just want to smile?

And it’s the ones that *I* love that make the blog and the website. Which draws in more families that like that style of photography. And then you get awesome families like ours who are playful and creative.

Thanks Hagen and Haylie! You guys were so easy and fun to work with!  I hope you found some rocking Halloween costumes after our session! ;)

Oh, and I *love* the photojournalistic type stuff. That last photo would certainly make it into a frame in my house.

I think one of the things that makes you unique is your treatment of skin and skin tones. You always nail the colors and your techniques for processing are excellent. great work as always (from one of those aspiring photographers). Not to give away all of your secrets, but you should consider a seminar or a mentoring program. I would sign up for sure.

Awesome! Tears come to my eyes everytime I look at these pictures- you just captured the look of Allen, Leslie, Hagen and Haylie that I have seen so so many times and wished I had a picture of it. I am a very proud mom and grammie.

My question is…how do you get families to be comfortable interacting and having fun. Of course some of that comes with having families who aren’t expecting to just pose, sit and smile; but I’m sure you have some great ways of coaxing out the fun, too.
