Adoption Sunday/Friday/What day is it? Meet Max:

Adoption Sundays have suddenly expanded…today was Adoption Friday, tomorrow we have an Adoption Saturday, and on Sunday we have THREE sessions books.  Love it!!!

Today was a special adoption session because Max is our first newborn to photograph for this project.  When we heard about his family we knew right away that he needed to get in just as quickly as possible…he’s already four weeks and I LOVE being able to include a sweet, cuddly newborn amongst all the big kids we’ve been photographing.

Max’s adoption is domestic, and the coolest thing about his story is that his parents waited two days for ‘the call’.

Two. Days.

You see, Max is 1/8 Native American, and Native American laws state that these babies can only be adopted by card carrying members of a Native American tribe.  The cards all fell into place and just as his parents were approved, he was born, and the shortest wait of all took place.

I had to snap a quick photo of the dreamcatcher that hangs in his nursery

Max’s daddy is the card-carrying member of the (I-already-forgot-the-name) tribe, and these two special guys definitely share a bond.

And Mom?  Well, she’s just smitten with her gorgeous boy.

Congratulations on your sweet family guys!  I hope he continues to be the laid back little man that he was this morning…he’s an absolute heartbreaker!

Canvas explosion…

Today was like Christmas, and I wanted to share the joy as we  unpacked box after box of gorgeous canvases.

First up, a series of three 16×16 metallic canvases-they took my breath away, and now I can’t stop thinking of what I can do in my kids’ rooms and the playroom with these (my husband is probably not going to buy the whole ‘business expense’ excuse for long).  I think I need 9 over the couch in our viewing room too…

Dylan’s mom came by to pick these up and emailed a few hours later, letting me know that upon finding these already hung in her room, Dylan (and I love this description) “very rarely shows us approval or glee and we got a big glimpse of it today!  She jumped and squealed and hugged me.  All should have been for you!“.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that :)

Today’s shipment also contained this 16×30 that I *heart*.  I have a series of five 15×30’s in my entryway of our little family, but I love how long and narrow this size is.  Must have one.

(I still can’t get over her eyes)

I’ve been waiting to show this one off until we had a few others to pair with it, so today’s the day!  A gorgeous 24×30 that many of you have seen as you’ve come in for ordering sessions or to pick up your prints.  Such a cote, happy family!

Shiny, happy, redheaded babies…

I feel like I have an R.E.M. tune stuck in my head…

We met Ian and (no-longer-a-baby-but-now-2!) Olivia at the park for Ian’s second baby plan session, and despite the fact that he was ready for a bottle and a nap, he did an amazing job at being happy and smiley. I adore this age!

I’m pretty sure this is Dad’s favorite shot…he kept saying “That’s SO HER!”-and I just had to laugh….just wait until she’s 5 guys, trust me on this ;)

My personal favorite from today-I love that sassy pout!

But it’s hard to stay sassy and pouty for long, especially in the water on a beautiful day like this one.

Thanks Olivia and Ian! Thanks for a really fun morning :)

(Can I get a big WOOPEE that my blog post is finally loading after THREE DAYS of trying? Geez-this session happened Monday. It’s now Thursday. I think I need to celebrate!)

Adoption…Saturday?

Adoption Sunday took place a day early this week, so I can be home to celebrate my sweet hubby’s birthday tomorrow (Happy Birthday sweet guy!).  How are we celebrating his big 4-6? With the exciting news that we are officially approved and waiting at our adoption agency. How cool is that?

I bounced into this cute family’s home on cloud 9 after opening the letter from the agency congratulating us, and it was the perfect way to celebrate as this family is living proof that open adoption works (this is the type of adoption that we hope to have…fingers crossed that it works for us as well as it’s worked for this family).

Garrison is five months old and was adopted at a few days old. His parents enjoy an open relationship with his birthmother, and he has a home that is as loving and filled with joy as any I’ve seen. His big sister Olivia is 5 and I’m pretty sure she thinks baby Garrison hung the moon.

It’s certain, at least, that she loves him to the moon and back. Just take a look:

Adoption Sunday (part 2)

Our second adoption session today was with Blake.  He is 3. He is fast.  He is sometimes shy of strangers.

He is excited by the world around him, and calls of “Look at this!” echoed through the park today as he explored every tree, leave, and branch with both of his Daddies in tow.

And these guys?  Completely smitten with their little guy.

When those big brown eyes locked with mine I had to look over at those poor Dads,  and I chuckled as I said “You guys are in SO. MUCH. TROUBLE.  How in the world do you try to discipline eyes like those?”

They agreed that it’s very, very hard.

Blake was adopted domestically and is biracial.  Which is exactly the program we’re working through on our adoption.  I love his self-proclaimed “big hair”.  And I’m pretty sure I could just eat this whole little family right up.
